2024 Fiona Hill Award in Accounting and Finance

Every year Accounting and Finance students are given the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Fiona Hill Award. This unique programme, in its 10th year, is funded by the Henry Smith Trust which was set up 400 years ago to support young people in achieving their career ambitions.

For this year’s award students were asked to design and develop an innovative learning resource to help themselves and others to better understand some of the more complex aspects of Accounting and Finance and improve the financial capability of users. The award places a focus on developing employability skills such as effective communication, problem solving and time management as well as an opportunity to demonstrate creative flair and subject expertise.

This year’s finalists, Isabel Peacock, Jenni Ditchburn, Josh Irving and Thomas Southwell Turnbull (pictured with Mr David Holloway and Mr Ian McKenzie from the Board of Trustees) presented their submissions to a panel of judges, which included representatives from the board of trustees, Mr Ian McKenzie and Mr David Holloway. The students had already undertaken a number of steps and rounds of submission prior to the final. The quality of the submissions was exceptional this year and the judges needed to deliberate for some time before agreeing on the winning submission.
